International Association of Jews from Egypt
This website is pretty interesting. I'm quite fascinated by the story of the Jews that were squeezed out in the 1950's. It's quite sad in the sense that they saw themselves as Egyptians or Iraqis and so on. They still listen to all the same music at their weddings and the older generations have very fond memories of their home.
So there's a certain irony here. We attack them for trying to create a nation state for themselves that will protect their interests. A state, which i must mention, that I find abhorrent even to the principles by which it was created. Yet on the other hand we banished them from our own countries and repossessed their properties, often going to covetous government cronies, thus reinforcing the idea that they can never be secure until they seize a state of their own.
There is a certain hipocrisy in our dealings with Jews in general. We condemn them for behaviour which we ourselves engage in most comfortably.
Anyway, I think their story would make a great article for an Egyptian magazine.
